“THE MAN WITHOUT A MOTHER TONGUE”
March 12, 2023“WHAT SHOULD CITIZENS LOOK LIKE?”
March 26, 2023… Interview with author Susan Omondi and Mayor Ute Seifried”
This is the title of the press release of the city of Singen am Hohentwiel on the cooperation event with the vhs district of Konstanz.
What an honour.
In preparation, I was already able to get to know the esteemed mayor Ute Seifried and her team: entertaining, exciting and discovered a lot of connected things.
The team had already read part of the book and was thrilled to hear the message and my welcoming way of talking about diversity.
The anticipation was great: we also discussed “sensitive” topics, our moments of clarity and agreed on the message of the evening.
The moderator will ask us clever questions and I am allowed to read passages from my published book.
I am excited and at the same time very happy about it.
This journey, which began well before this evening of 24.03., makes me confident. The attitude of all those involved and of our mayor gives me hope.
And today I think of unforgettable moments of “formal” integration:
It was precisely at the vhs Landkreis Konstanz e.V. that I was allowed to write my integration test many many years ago.
On that day I arrived very late due to an accident, and had reached someone with difficulty to inform them that I would be late and hoped that the test team would not exclude me.
I arrived about 30 minutes later and met a nice lady who assured me that it was half as bad. When the results came, I had 33 out of 33 points. It couldn’t be more integrated:-)
Nevertheless, I know that I have forgotten half of what I have learned. I will make up for this later, because the questions are, in my opinion, excellent, even for locals.
Admission is free for everyone. If you can set it up, Singen am Hohentwiel is optimally connected by transport.
It would be a great pleasure for me to meet you there in person.
For registration, see comment.
Happy Sunday and maybe see you soon
